Zoners and the CCBC
« on: August 23, 2015, 01:40:49 AM »
The CCBC - Cape Cod Bay Challenge was born on the Zone
it is supported by Zoners
it is attended by Zoners

While Paddle Events are disappearing..... the CCBC blazes along, with a giant heart

The Cape Cod Bay Challenge raises money to support "Christopher's Haven"
The work that "Christopher's Haven" does is immense
The kids that come there are "No hope" cases
90% survive..... because of the very very special support that "Christopher's Haven" provides
That is incredible!
http://christophershaven.org/about-us/

This small band of Standup Paddleboarders raised $70,000 with todays event..... totaling somewhere near 3/4 of a million dollars since it's humble beginning.
and it was created by and supported by Zoners
What they do is best of the best..... amazing to attend... amazing to be with these people!

The paddlers were hit by a nasty storm in the middle of the 36 mile Cape Cod Bay crossing.... all paddlers had to leave the water and board the large ferry and other support boats
After the storm past.... they launched and completed the crossing
Just miles away.... Cape Cod was calm and peaceful.
Storms are random that way

The storm is like the cancer that attacks these kids
The support boats and crews are like "Christopher's Haven"
There when you need them.... to keep you warm, safe and happy until the storm is over.....
and you can get back under way.

Here are some moments from a very special day.....

Awesome to see this, and that good safety choices were made along the route to pull people out onto the support boats together for a short time when conditions got bad. Great organisation! Congratulations to all who made it, and for raising money for a great cause!

Sorry I missed that last pic. I had to get to my hotel by eight, so my wife and I had to rush out.

Also sorry we had to bail early and miss the photo, but our toddler wasn't going to last much longer before turning into a screaming mess.  Glad to put some faces to names.
Also great to meet everybody and to participate in such a cool event.  The victory at sea conditions made for a very interesting day on the water.  Made me realize how hard it must be to organize and pull off something like this, and I was glad to have had that big boat to jump onto, the timing was right on that.  Awesome planning as far as on the water support goes.  Also the party afterwards was great.  All in all I had a great time and am trying to recruit friends for next years event.
Going to need a faster board for next year, appreciated the stability when things were hairy, but the last push to the beach killed me every time the board hit a wave it stopped.

Creek you summed it up perfectly.  Great weekend all around..the CCBC, sushi and rum at Mac's Shack and topped off by really fun surf in Wellfleet.

Always good fun meeting Zoners at the CCBC… you got the Cliff Notes version of the CCBC in terms of time and distance, but it was one for the ages when it comes to challenging conditions.
