I have been trying Ralph's waist attachment, used with the regular leash.  You just attach your standard leash to a metal ring on the waist leash.

I like it. It seems to improve the ergonomics and keeps the leash out of the way. Also, instead of draping the leash around the fins when storing or transporting the board, just drop the larger loop on the nose, no potential fin cuts on the leash.

 I hope that it also will help to prevent hold downs aka Beasho's threads on using waist leashes rather than the foot dragging regular ankle leash.
