"Borrowed" from seabreeze.com, okay stolen.

Hitler: What are the emissions like? - I wouldn't want to be harming millions of people.
It takes a quiver to do that.

Still cracks me up a little bit to see hypocrites in putrid smoke producing VW's sporting "Free Tibet" and "Earth First" bumper stickers...;-)
Regardless, I sure had some fun hunting down out of the way waves in "Baja Bugs" plastered with Grateful Dead stickers up and down the West Coast...not a surf brand sticker to be seen...at least, until the Datsun 4X4 came along...;-)

Believe it or not...that Dead Head sticker got us out of at least one traffic ticket with a Dead Head CHP officer...long strange trip for sure...;-)

Fascinating stuff with VDub history, nonetheless...one of the bestest VW fanatical mechanics that I had, owned an original Kubelwagen displayed proudly in his repair shop here in SB...along with walls covered with Che Guevara pics...;-)

As an interesting aside, captured Kübelwagen were put to use by the Americans, and resulted in the first comprehensive English-language Technical Manual for the operation and service of the Volkswagen in 1944. Regardless of what the US high command thought of the VW, plenty of GIs came home with positive memories or grudging respect, helping the Volkswagen became a popular import in the early fifties based on its rep for toughness.

My buddy is doing a Ford Transit wagon conversion, hadn't thought of that, seems like a pretty good base. Not sure how much stuff you can load up top after installing a pop top,but he's a cyclist, can just add that stuff to the back.

2 VW bus sightings this week. One was engulfed in flames on the Vista Hermosa offramp and the other was sitting sideways in the middle of PCH in San Clemente with the engine sitting on the street and the driver just standing in the middle of the highway staring at it in disgust.

I'm holding on to the hope that the 85 dodge caravan will make a comeback....at least it could pass a VW bus.

Two less to get stuck behind when they try to pass a truck up a five mile grade. I'm always pulling for them, but sometimes I feel like pushing them.

Volkswagon is now pledging to focus on electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles:

http://www.hybridcars.com/volkswagen-to-shift-strategy-from-diesel-to-plug-in-hybrids-and-electric-vehicles/

With all the stupid things VW has done lately, maybe something good will come out of this? I'd like to see a wide range of plug-in hybrids when I finally replace my CRV.
