The Are GoPros GOOD or BAD poll

All Good.  I just got one from ULI to post stuff on their FB page so I'm late to the party and have a lot to learn but I think they're fun.  If you don't like 'em don't watch.  Been using a board mount and tried the helmet cam the other day and had a long swim in some sharky water so I agree with Carib!  Next I want to make a paddle mount like Pono and an elevated tail mount for downwinders cause I like those images the best.

Love/hate.....I love seeing the videos especially when it gets you deep into serious action but I rarely use mine now because basically I'm recording how much I suck and it gets weird when you see 4 or 5 in the lineup. When someone takes the time to add some funny commentary or local knowledge, do some editing, etc. that's when they are good.  I come down on the good side.

of course, don't watch them if you don't like them. i don't, so i don't. why is expressing an opinion instantly a matter of 'hatred' these days?  my original point was not that no one should make or watch them, only that I find them boring and they offer (me) a terrible perspective when trying to judge a board, a rider, or conditions. seems most disagree w/me, a few agree. all is well.

This poll is BAD. It should really be Selfie: good, bad, ugly(maybe). It's not about the GoPro it's where you stick it.

Board mounted=bad
Paddle mounted=maybe, depends on the paddle operator
Mouthie=maybe, depends on whether it's facing outside or inside
Chestie=same as mouthie
Wrist mounted=maybe
Tripod mounted from the beach=maybe, can't see squat from far away
Drone mounted=good

It's not the Go Pro that's putting out the selfies, it's the narcissists who are framing the shots.

That being said, selfies can still be very entertaining, compelling and helpful as an evaluation tool (rider technique, board....etc). Again, depends on who's doing the shooting and where they're taking it.

I use mine all the time, and have used one for years.  Kooky or not, I'm glad I began documenting my almost daily life over 10 years ago.  I started pre-gopro with the Olympus and Pentax waterproof point and shoots..

Memories fade but photos are forever.

Here's a shot I got from yesterdays session in Lahaina.  I surfed for abit, then broke out the 'megapole' with gopro mounted on the end.

And another thing...I just started using the GP on the nose of my board and have already corrected an error in my surfing.  I would cross step to the nose not on the stringer and would be alittle wobbly, now am conscious about this and walk the stringer and take smaller steps to make it look smoother.

GoPro's are good, regardless of what others think.

Couldn't get through the winter w/o your vids and pics
For me who is in a congested (compact) lineup most of the time (worth GoPRO) and as an ambassador of SUP I minimize my GoPROing So SUP's aren't seen (so much) as "Those Guys"

So I'm going with both GOOD and in certain cercumstances bad

Well... my line-up is never crowded
But if any proners stray into the group.... I ain't a'scared... I just give em' what for... and record their indoctrination with my nose cam.

This pip squeak is well on his way to stardom... seriously....he trains in CR & FLA all winter. Home schooled.... but I have his Dad (ripper as well) stoked to buy a SUP this summer.
If Robbie the Ripper ever gets into SUP... he will be a star overnight.

So.... some pics to show GoPro's as teaching aids... and if I get my way... a future SUP star of epic ability and class
