calf leashes vs ankle leashes
« on: December 09, 2008, 09:36:56 AM »
I noticed in the Tom Carroll pics that Blane took (awesome pics, thanks Blane), that he wears a calf leash. What do people think of them and what are the advantages?
I had knee surgery recently, and someone told me a calf leash lessons the tug on your leg in the white water. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. Blane, I love your boards, your 10'3" AA is my "All Time ( 18 months) :) Fav".

I won a calf leash in a raffle (not a contest). I use it because I've got it, but I wrap it on my ankle. Every time I've tried it on my calf,  when I get back on the board after I fall, it is often wrapped around my ankle or in the way in some sort. I know I'm doing something wrong, but it just doesn't work and I've not had a problem with an ankle rope.

I've always worn a calf leash. Seems to stay out of my way better. Never had any trouble with it getting in the way as long as I start with it pointed with the connector to the outside... ;D

I wear a calf leash because it stays out of the way if you are doing any foot work.  It does seem to pull your knee are less for some reason.

I always wear a knee leash but only those with the longneck standaway. For the most part I never feel any pressure on the leg or knee if (when) I fall.

Thanks everyone for responding, and Bob, I'm going to call you to order a leash.

depends.  I like a calf leash cause I like to noseride if possible... and coming from a progressive longboarding background, I'm already used to it.  if you aren't walking the board, the ankle leash would probably be good enough.
