New King's 8'8" WCT Custom
« on: February 24, 2015, 11:32:23 AM »
Another beautiful board from Dave Daum and the folks at King's Paddlesports.

It is a custom 8'8"  x  30.75"  x  4.4"  x  127 liters. The starting point for the design was their WCT model with modifications based on my experiences with my 7'11" Lazer.

We removed some of the nose rocker, softened the rails, added a diamond tail, and put special secret sauce on the bottom contours. Vacuum bagged, with a stringer, and innegra lamination with 5 FCS II fin boxes.

It is my third King's custom and I can't say enough about the time Dave so graciously spent with me on the CAD design phase. If I could shape this is exactly how it would come out.

Will give a riding review after s couple of sessions!
Let it come to you..

Nice custom.  Looks like the "classic" performance shape. Is that a full five fin setup?  If it is full five fin, was it your preference Mr. Big or the King's recommendation?

Sea trial yesterday. Paddled this beauty in flat water and the reduced nose flip and slightly flatter rocker have created an 8'8" Ice Breaking Rocket.

Sup-cheat, I ordered it with five FCS II boxes so I have many options. Am going to ride it as a thruster with the FCS II Carver Large in Neo glass. Better than the cheapo plastic. Not as stiff as the carbon..

Oooh nice!  WCT/ Laser hybrid?  How does the 7'11" laser go for you?  Aw
Ate thought that would make a great east coast board, doable in lots of conditions. I smile every time I ride my SS kings!
Congrats!

Dave  -  The 7'11" CBIII (not kidding ask Dave D.) is absolutely spectacular. Bad fast, loose and stable. Check out my old thread on it...

Well the surf gods conspired on my behalf. Waist to chest offshore winds somewhere in RI.

Great chance to test my new King's. It is AMAZING!!

All of the subtle changes that I asked Dave to make worked together in a harmonious way. You never know until you ride it.

No catch rails on the front third worked perfectly; could turn hard from the tail with no slipping or sliding while the turn initiation was easy not stiff like some thrusters I have ridden in the past.

Acceleration out of turns was quick with a lot of drive, speed is a great thing if it is not out of control and this rascal has that elusive combination of speed and easy turn initiation which is hard to find to say the least.

The wind suddenly came on shore and we experienced choppy test conditions - oh joy oh rapture! The width and bottom contours were surprisingly stable. No cavitation and Tippy Wan Ken Obe had left the building.

Narrow parallel stance shifting to Kung Foo going to full on surf stance with my back foot on the stomper was the way to do it!

Made a snap off the top at about 45 degrees on a section that was shutting down and stuck the landing. WTF haven't been able to that on a SUP until today.

Must be the special World Cup Tour bottom contours!
