It is terrifying...the spot they are surfing is called "Killers"...

I was fortunate to get to spend time surfing, camping, (special arrangement) and visiting both islands back in the day...
My oceanography degree came in handy...;-)

I did this vid edit back in the linear editing days...it gives you a feel for the ecosystem out there...
My biggest waves didn't get captured, since the camera was mine...but, I did get an amigo to film a little bit...
Back then, before digital cams, YouTube, and GoPros...soul surfing was way more important than shooting...;-)

Back to killers...paddling out is really muy peligroso (very dangerous)...you are trapped between gnarly rocks and can't see the sets coming as they wrap around the tip of the island...you are totally committed...there is a huge boil in the takeoff zone...bigger boards are required to navigate the takeoff...not needed once on the wave face...and, the sheer cliffs and barnacle covered rocks on the inside are definitely life threatening...



My back story is that I was a week into recovering from a fin I took in the gut that had to be sewn up, courtesy of a Jalama windsurfing accident...
I wasn't about to lose the permit...so, I wrapped the wound the best I could...
I knew the bacteria count would be low...the place is so pristine...anyways, it worked out...memorable time in the Baja...
I had great times and more adventures on other islands down there as well...;-)
