Toyota double cab roof racks are sturdy.  They are aluminum, with an aero cross section.  They are curved to match the roof.  They are hinged, and can swing 90 degrees to lock into the mount.  Overall, a very good design.

Your 10 footer should fit in a 5 foot bed.  12-6's fit in my 6 foot bed.

Thanks for the reply.  I may be getting an '09 in the near future, and I'm working out the details.  For hauling SUPs in the bed, do you use cross bars or just a pad and straps on the tailgate?

High petrol costs forced me to sell my 4x4 and buy a little zook.

Like the bike guys style, a ladder, a hand truck, and a couple of bunggie cords.

Just bought this yesterday to put my new Footemaui quiver on top. Needs some tires but otherwise runs good I heard.

I have a 05 Tundra w/ 5 ft bed.  I have a Thule bar across  the bed at 18 inches from the cab. I have it SS bolted with a SS wingnut and washer. Easy on easy off if need be.. It holds the board w. tie down straps. I can hold up to 4 SUP's , two on each side. They hang off the back  atop top of the tail gate and I strap them down too. I've traveled 300-400 miles on Interstate w/ no problems. I also just put the board in the back of the bed with it angling upward for my 1/2 mile trip to my local breaks.   Here are some pics...  PM me if you want more details.....This is a 10-3  on the back but have had my 12 footers on there too. May need a red flag on the nose of the boards. They do stick out far but i have not been stopped yet..

gjbsup, thanks for the detailed photos and info, just what I was looking for.  The new Tacomas have a track system inside the bed near the top of the rails, and crossbars are available that fasten quickly and easily to the tracks.  Here's a picture of the system:   I've seen the crossbars for about $90 for the pair, offered by some Toyota dealers through their websites.

I'm glad to know the future 10-0 and the current 11-6 will work with the Tacoma 5 foot bed, since I'm pretty sure I'll be driving one soon.

for what it's worth, I have an 03 Tacoma Dcab, but with a bed extender I scored for $80 brand new with OEM brackets (no drilling required).  I think the bed extends out to around 75-78", so my 10'4" does stick out that much... but now that I'm down to a 9'6", it's all good.  I've driven long distances on the freeways with just a single strap holding my board down, no problem... but I don't speed either, so there's not much wind pushing on my board.

I do like that setup gjbsup has on the Tundra.  gjbsup, could you PM me with some details on your setup??  looks awesome and I could actually USE my bed... finally!

Here is my SUP MOBILE......
The photo on the big sticker is from Starboard and the rider is Scott McKercher.
When the SB R&D team came to Bali I went to pick them up and was quite a funny moment when he found out that his picture was on the side of my car!!

easiest way is by using the Additional options link at the bottom left below the text message box when you are posting.

Here's another thread that discusses it as well but includes posting pics to the gallery here and then cutting and pasting.
