I keep staring at that Motoped, what a lovely design. I like the vincent-esque "frameless" openness of the front and back wheels with that elegant little seat. It's a little cluttered up with the muffler and pedals. but overall, it's gorgeous.

Hey Bill,
Here's a couple more you might like:

http://bultacobrinco.com/

I used to ride a Bultaco Sherpa many years ago, if I had the cash, I'd buy a Brinco - do you think they'll hold their value as only 175 are being made ?

Also :
Best not get sand in this one  :D

the Caterham bike is gorgeous, but 250 watts and 36 volts??? Who are they building that for? The 'Taco is 2K burst to 3K, that's more like it. Expecting something to hold value because it's rare is not the road to riches. To hold value a substantial number of people have to have wanted it but couldn't get it. A large percent of the male population over 60 wanted a Ferrari California Spider. There's a fair number who can now afford to drop forty million for one without twitching.

My feeling is that technology is moving so fast that one e-bike will quickly lose it's desirability as soon as it's motor/components become obsolete, but old tech can still be collectible/a good investment from certain makers, as you point out with Ferrari and then become a classic design.

Have you seen Philippe Starck's (future classic?) fat-tyre e-bike ?

This thread has made me seriously consider a fat-tyre e-bike, when you start looking there's so many out there!

I like that enorm design. Some time ago one of the regulars on the ebike thread of endless-spere designed and built a semi recumbent laid back cruiser that looked a lot like that. He used a cheap Walmart bike as the base. I've been looking to do the same thing for a while. A worthy project--it would look spectacular with a surfboard rack. If I build it long it will be more stable for SUP carrying.

I was gonna rebuild this to a 500.   Dumpster find with 250 in back.
Thought it would pull my secret island trailer, but this thread has me all worked up .

The future looks pretty bright to me!
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

$499 for the next 72 hours.

I have sworn off crowdfunding but I can't resist.  It'll probably never show up.

These are all starting to get back to what I used to bike across Bali and Java with the ultimate aim of being a great beach bike to traverse the long beach from Gradjagan village to the point where the G-Land surf camp was built.  That bike was a fat wheeled Suzuki 80.

The price is good,  the gear on it costs more than the bike does, which would make me nervous. It's low spec, but still the motor, controller, battery and wheels whould run more than $1K.
