I made one a while ago out of a stomp pad I had - just carved out a hand hold (not a through hole)
BUT I decided not to put it on because I was concerned whether or not it would create
drag as my longboard's tail often has lots of water on the rear deck (I think).  Actually,
it could be good but I was thinking it might slow the board down too much if it does catch water.
I guess I could put it on and take it off if it is a problem.

Anyway, looking forward to your review!

I don't think it's likely to cause much drag. The water going over your deck would be pretty broken up I'd think. I could be wrong though. Put it on and see what you think....you can always take it off....as much of a pain as it can be.

I love the tail handle I put on my SIMS so much (using the Surfco EZ Plugs), I had the guys at Infinity add some extra leash plugs to the RNB they shaped for me. I took the RNB out for the first few sessions without a handle, and I totally missed having one.  I didn't realize how much I used it.  I installed one as soon as I could.  Not the prettiest things in the world, but I love them.

I also added one to my buddies Stoke.  He loves it too.

Any progress with these stone axe? I need something on the tail and your product looks great.  If not I will go down the noodle handle route.

Pono was going to go talk to the folks at NSI. I'm beginning to think I should just get a bunch made.

Sorry for bumping a stale thread, but did anybody ever produce a commercial version of this?

Sadly no....I still have the only one in existence. I had one of the EZ-plugs pull off on another board...couldn't believe how much I missed having the handle.

I still say the NSI tail handles are the best. All my boards have one. I used it quite a bit just yesterday in head high surf. I wouldn't want to get caught inside without one. I've been using them for over three years on seven different boards and never had one pull off.

The best way to install them is with the pads turned 90 degrees with the curve of the handle towards the tail. Your hand will never get caught in it this way.

Yup....the NSI are pretty good...probably why they never put the stomp/handle into production. I wouldn't get the EZ-plugs again.

Badger, I just ordered an NSI handle to put on my Speeed.  I'm wondering how far back the handle goes when you grab it in the surf in light of the different comments/concerns about fingers getting caught. Did you install it so the handle goes out beyond the end of the board when you hold it in surf?  Ever encounter any issues with fingers getting stuck in the handle?  Thx.
