Abdominal Stretch

Two weeks ago, while paddling in knee height waves, I felt a sharp pain about one inch below my right ribs.
I tried to catch some more waves that day, but the pain got stronger and I had to get out of the water.
Eversince I feel this stretch when coughing, getting in the car and while changing positions.
I believe it is nothing more then tearing some muscle fibers in my abs, but would like to get some feedback from the forum.
Has anyone encountered such a pain? Any advice to speed up recovery?
