I have looked at this recently and it looks pretty good but a little pricey.  I hope to demo it this weekend. The biggest drawback I see with it, is that you cannot download your session information to a computer.

I had a chance to try it out last weekend and I have to say it is not that bad.  The interface is easy to use and you can read the screen in direct sunlight.  As for it's tracking capability, I would give it a 4 out of 5 accuracy.  I paddled about 4.5 miles and the device reported pretty close to that figure.  I am not sure what the accuracy of the GPS is but it is close enough for me.  The SpeedCouch count your strokes and it showed around 2200. I have not idea if that was accurate since I have nothing to compare that figure to.

The one thing that I did not like about it is when I stopped for about 1 minute to drink some water.  The tracker paused and did not resume when I started paddling again.  I had to push a button to start the tracking again.  I did not notice this happened for about 10 minutes of paddling.  I can understand it paused with not activity but it should resume when the location changes or gyro records a change. That is a pretty simple programming task to do.

The other thing that it does not do is allow you to download your session information to your computer when you get home.  It would be nice if it saved your route as a GPS NMEA sentence also save the rest of your session information.  If I had the GPS information, I would be able to upload it to Google Maps and look at the route that I took. Then with the rest of the information, I log the information and track progress during my paddling season.

Would I recommend this?  Sure, if you want to spend $300+ for it. Otherwise, I think there are other devices out there that are better and cheaper.

If anyone knows a cheaper device to use that does not depend on a cell phone, let me know.

Paul.

I have speed and time indicators already.  I could use live stroke rate.  There must be a less expensive option than this?
