Using my AllWave as twinnie
« on: May 25, 2014, 09:42:47 AM »
Does anyone else surf their AW as a twin fin?  I have recently taken the rear, middle fin out of my AW 8'10" making it into a twinnie.  I am loving it in small/medium sized surf.  (Probably would put it back for steeper and bigger waves)  Thinking about getting slightly bigger side fins to make up for the missing middle.  Has anyone here done that?  Did it work out well?

I know Sup the Creek used to ride his AW as a twin fin before he switched to a Hobie Raw.  He posted about it some months ago you you might find it in search.

I am pretty sure he loved the set up

Jimmy Lewis Kwad 8'7"
Naish Hover 95 liter 5'7"
F-One Rocket foil board 5'5" 90 liters
Fanatic Aero 1250, 1500, 1750 HA foils

I tried doing this the last couple days at SanO and found that my board really lacked drive and was hard to pump down the line. Not a fan of running my 9'6" Allwave as a twin fin as of yet anyway.

From memory the Allwaves thruster set up uses big fins anyway so I wouldn't waste cash on a bigger set. Ride it and just enjoy something different but when it gets bigger you will want to centre fin.

Yes.... I found that it works very well with the right fins.

Here's a quick shot of the fins I used, which provided great drive... and a link to the thread I posted:
