L41 was coined by Kirk McGinty of L41 surfboards. It stands for "Lower 41st", as in 41st ave in the Santa Cruz/Capitola area.

It has since morphed into a catch all description of the entire Pleasure Point to Capitola area.

It includes all of the breaks from the Hook south to Capitola.  Sharks Cove, Privates, Trees, etc.
