14' board bags--Koredry?
« on: May 13, 2014, 05:04:10 PM »
The nice-fitting bag I got with my carbon Glide is starting to disintegrate.  Kinda feels like it's too soon, but more urgently as the board is on the roof of my car for most workdays, I don't want it exposed to the sun.

Anyone have any experience with these:  http://www.victorykd.com/Topless-Board-Bag-p/vktbbrace.htm

Any other suggestions?

I just got one for my Jimmy Lewis M-14. I haven't used it much but I like it so far. I bought it to protect my boards from heat and sun damage.

I don't like zippered bags as they are a hassle to unzip and they take up a lot of space. The koreDry is on and off in seconds and it rolls up into a small ball when not in use. You don't have to worry if the board is wet as the KoreDry material dries quickly and being topless, the bag itself never overheats.

I bought it for times when my boards might have to sit on my car for a few hours or for days at the beach when it might lay on the sand while I take breaks.

If you get the 14' bag it will fit all of your boards. For shorter boards you can just tie a knot in the end and tuck it inside.

I haven't used it on really hot days yet. If necessary, I thought a layer of reflective material or inexpensive felt between the board and the bag might add insulation from the suns heat. The way I check is, if the board feels hot to the hand, it's too hot. I'll be testing this with the topless bag as we progress into summer.

I got one for my Allwave, thinking it might protect it from the sun if I have to leave the board on my car all day in the summer, and from road grime when driving to and from the beach. I forgot that it only has one reinforced center fin slit, so I had to cut 2 more for the side fins and reinforce them with some seam sealer.  I've only used it once so far, and it's pretty easy to put on the board. However, when I tie my ropes down over it, it seems like they may wear holes in the cover over time. I don't know how long this cover will hold up, but I'll probably just use it for the occasions where I need to leave my board in the hot sun for a while.

As for regular bags, I was thinking the other day that if I ever get another custom one from Midnight, I'm going to ask them to put a velcro slit like the one for the fin over the handle on the other side, so I can carry the board by its handle without taking it out of the bag.

Thanks, guys.  If you think of it, I'd love to know how they hold up and how you feel about prolonged sun exposure after you've used them for awhile.  My board tends to live on the roof of my truck.  I paddle in the AM and then it's in direct sunlight parked at work pretty much all day.  Even though the outside of my bag seems to be wearing out, the reflective part inside looks good.  My toys need to last me awhile so I need to take care of them.

I'm happy with mine. A bit pricey but no regrets. I got it since I keep my boards in the car. I wish there were Velcro for the center fin slot since one if my boards is a quad only. I'm afraid the side fins will tear it so  I put a towel over my fins before I put the topless bb on. That also covers the board under the center fin slot preventing yellowing since the board is white. If the fin area was reinforced and there was Velcro it would be perfect.

I traveled with it on the board once and wouldn't recommend it - it didn't appear sturdy enough to withstand the buffeting...

I have one for each of my boards. Drive few days a week with thruster fins on SUS under cover no problem. Have had my carbon race board on top of car under hot sun all day no problem. I rarely ever use the padded bags anymore. These topless board bags are great!
