welcome to the board... the paddle's price range are around the $300 and above here in the states. you can build your paddle for around $80 to $100 in materials (probably less) if you already have the tools and net a minimum of a $200 savings. of course this would all depend on the materials used (wood, carbon, fiberglass, etc.).
whoever invented the hole... knew nothing.

I started with home building, but not to save money. It was because I had a vision of what I wanted and no one would listen, so i went at it alone.

If your doing it to save money, its the wrong reason. If you want to enjoy the satisfaction of sliding into a long glassy wall on something you made.... GO FOR IT!

Its a pain in the ass blending a long, clean thick line, so do some homework first. Swaylocks is a great place to start.

Remember, anything you make will float, some just better than others...

As far as cost wise goes, you would probably definitely save money if you shaped, glassed, and bought the materials.
Most paddleboards are about $1500 US and the materials won't cost nearly that much. It will take a lot of time, and depending on your skill you might not get as good of a product as if you ordered one.
It pretty much all depends on your abilities and what tools you have laying around. Good luck
