No wetsuits after June (May if you're a Mainah)

What are the water temps early August?

No wetsuit in August ...one reason I started SUPing 5 years ago was because I didn't want to wear a wet suit prone surfing Maine. The water will be 60s and refreshing should you fall in

Hi photoman,
The water activities in Maine are endless. So many choices it will make your head spin.
No way you could even scratch the surface in a lifetime of paddling
3,478 miles of tidal coastline... yikes... that's 3 times as much coast as ALL the Hawaiian Islands together.

Definitely hit up some of the resident Zoners for good suggestions...

I'm sure you have checked out the coast... this is for those who may not have.

Here is a picture of a tiny section, near Portland, showing the amazing variety of waterways.

Considering where you're coming from, if you're surfing without a wetsuit, you still might need to wear something.

I started surfing the last week of July last summer at Jenness Beach NH with no wet suit and went all the way to mid September before buying my Drysuit, but there were a lot of mornings when I got so cold I couldn't take it.

I tried all kinds of layers of different fabrics. Loose fitting KoreDry shirts were the answer. One long sleeve was usually enough, but sometimes I needed the hoodie over that. KoreDry is a great product. It's a fast drying breathable fabric that keeps you warm but not too warm. It also protects you from the sun.

Some mornings my hands got so cold I had to wear my 2mm gloves.

Throughout August there were always a few guys who just wore board shorts. Some people are more warm blooded than others, but I get cold easy.

Casco Bay is an awesomely beautiful place. I've cruised all over it in my sailboat and have visited most of the islands but have never paddled there.

I'm planning a paddleboard circumnavigation of Great Chebeague Island and maybe a trip out to Jewell Island this summer.

Give me a shout before you head north, I'll take you out for a surf at York Beach or some amazing flat water adventures in Kittery Point in southern Maine and some delicious lobster post paddle....Before you head to Portland and check out Raf's shop,  you have to check out Mark Anastas at Liquid Dreams surf shop in Ogunquit, ME .  He's got plenty of boards to rent or demo and they have a cool restaurant "Hooks" right next door..Great town too with amazing restaurants

I have plenty of boards from 9ft to 14 ft

Avoid the restaurants in Ogunquit and Wells (mediocre/overpriced tourist traps) ...Eat in Kittery Foreside and Portsmouth

Lots of great easily accessible attitude-free surf breaks (can get crowded in August) excellent out of the way flat water and secret spots in Carib's neighborhood and points North

Killer Antique shops junky to high-end from York to Saco ;D

Best Saltwater Striper fishing in August!

Give me a heads up closer to then.

Southern Maine and Casco Bay have it all. The best places to launch and routes are very wind, tide, and swell dependent and so keep in touch. Leading up to CCBC in August, I'll be out on the water most days. Catch Raf's race if you can.  Also, Regional/northeast forum is a good place to look for goings on.

Ake whe are you?  I have a summer house in Kittery Point
Ogunquit is crowded but a few good local spots (Old Village inn and Hooks next to liquid Dreams)and  if the river mouth is breaking its worth fighting the crowds

Kittery's restaurant scene is changing for the better with a few very good restaurants and a brewery expected to open this Spring. Hooray beer!

Looks the same here without the potential rivermouth haven! That wouldn't be near a certain hotel would it?

Be sure to let us know when you pass through. Maine is an amazing place to SUP. You won't be disappointed! I second everyone else's recommendations. Acadia has tons of nice places to paddle too.

Rajah!

We've been booking BnB's up the coast, spending at least 2 nights in each and we're going for 2 weeks.

Dates are looking August 5th through the 19th.

I'd like to meetup with some zoners that are interested in getting in some water time.  And let me know if you need anything from Maui.  I can bring t-shirts or other schwag if interested.  Could possibly swing some autographed photos from Kody Kerbox or Connor Baxter that I've taken.
