Notice that by wearing a wetsuit (it was supposed to be Bells Beach) he skidded down the face and didn't penetrate the surface. I read somewhere that he said he got really worked.

The night surf was actually pupakea, north shore, late spring, noon.

We were just a small group, the Hui on the jet ski had us out of the water
quickly.  Some pros in full suits and cameramen paddled out and did it
in one take.  Used filters to make it dark.
