About the weights of TWCC vs SCC...its well worth $500.  Its probably worth $1000, if you are in the market for this kind of board in the 1st place.  Its not "a little weight vs $500".  Its more like "a cinder block on my board every time I go out vs $500".  I took delivery of my X12 and x14 2 days ago.  The 14 was SCC, super light, looks fast (quite aggressive rocker towards the tail, I assume for release but very flat rocker front 2/3).  Then I unpacked the x12 which should have been SCC as well and it weighed a LOT more than the 14 and I looked at the label and it was a TWC instead.

My take is the TWCs are for people who want an SIC board, and the SCCs are for people who want the BEST board. ;D

I have a couple of Pro models coming next month, but I wouldn't say that the X14 normal in SCC looks wide.  I think the Pro designation is probably accurate; get the x14 if you want to go really fast and kick ass in races and have tons of fun, get the x14Pro if 3rd place podium isn't good enough (or if you paddle on glass and/or are under 160bs)

Island Fox, the 2014 x14 SCC is 25 lbs.  30 or 31 lbs sounds right for the TWCC.  Can't go wrong with either board.  An agree with everything RAF said 100%.

Dumb question: In terms of how fast a board moves through the water- Is a board that weighs 25 lbs and has a paddler on top of it that weighs 200 lbs; the same as having a board that weighs 30 lbs with a paddler on top of it that weighs 195 lbs? Assuming the board is shaped the same- TWCC vs. SCC.. Both have 225 lbs sitting on top of the water..

I feel like the answer is no, they're not the same but wondering if anyone cares to explain why?

MKE, yeah about the same. Notice the difference most when carrying out if the water, accelerating or turning. Lighter board feels less sluggish.

MKE, here's a decent experiment that covers weight vs speed. http://zenwaterman.blogspot.com/2010/11/is-lighter-really-faster-sup-weight.html

Island Fox, Wow!!  That was an impressive test and conclusion!!  I am sure there will be those who may dispute your methodology and results, but not me.  I think you did a Great Job and explained it all very well!!  There is one test you did not complete though...you need to time yourself carrying that board with the 30 pounds of weight from the truck to the water and then back after a good long workout in the summer sun!!  I will bet the difference will be more than 5%..... ;D

Suplaz, I am about healed up and have had a chance to get in a few rides. I am loving this board!! It is so incredibly stable that I feel like I can do anything with it like maybe paddle blindfolded. It is fast too. Logged a personal best, but in windy conditions. Can't wait to get it out on a truly flat day and she what she will do. I pit a Ninja fin on it and that helped the tracking greatly. Have to step back a tad downwind to keep nose up, but is great downwind. Soo easy to change directions with the soft rails. Side wind and chop??  I laugh at them now!! Love the light weight and carry handle. This is a great board. Hats off to Mark Raaphorst for the shape!!

Hi Rideordie,
I have the same problem with my 14 X 26.12 Javelin and its reaction in cross wind/side chops.... unbearable...
I am thinking to get the X12 SCC or X12 Pro. Do you still have the X14 ? any more comments ?
How you deal with these cross wind/side chops now ?
Thanks.

Yep, I've got a 2013 X14. It actually feels more stable in chop than it does in flat water. Dunno how that happens but some boards are like that. The general handling is excellent - it is a flattering board. Being as the 2013 is the 29.5" board it does need someone with a reasonably big motor to power it up, but it is ridiculously quick for a board that wide and stable. This year's narrower versions (especially the pro) must be complete rockets in flat water, although I've never tried them. Downwind my X14 is good for a flat water board up to about 15 knots and knee-high bumps. Over that you want more rocker, as with most flat water raceboards. One big surprise for me was how well the X14 surfs. It's a lot of fun and really quite easy to control. It helps a lot that the deck has slightly sunken sides but is otherwise nice and flat all the way to the back, so it is very easy to feel where you are and to move around on the deck so as to get your back foot right over the fin. These boards look good too, kinda classy and clean lines IMO, and mine has deck plugs so you can carry your board with the paddle, which is such a bonus day-to-day I can't tell you, especially in wind. The handle is the best in the business too: no competition. Very handy if you are having to exit water quickly or are in a race with beach starts etc.

Area 10,

Do me a favour and run a tape across your X-14 and let us know what it reads.

I was talking to a shop owner on the phone a few days ago and he told me the 2013 X-14 isn't 29.5" wide, and it's actually the same width as the 2014 at 28 and change. The dude told me he had Raaphorst on the phone and asked what the deal is with the listed width being so far off for the 2013 and the response was that it's not 29.5" and it's actually 28". I was told that the rails had a bit of volume taken out but the width is essentially the same and they barely changed the mould for the X-14 from last year to this year. I'm not going to say who the dealer was on the web but he swore to me the 2013 models definitely aren't 29.5" wide. I'd be interested to know what the actual width really is.

Thanks for the measurement supLaz. 28.78 is a major variance from 29.5 and seems to varify what I was told about the actual width for the stock 2013 X-14. It would be good if other owners of the older X-14 gave some measurements too to help clarify. I was told the mould for the stock X-14 was barely changed for 2014 with minor re-tooling resulting in a volume decrease. Seems to be some discrepancies in the literature about the volume too. Between 280-285 and 295.5 for the 2014 stock X-14.

Whether 28 or 29,5 wide, it is a excellent all round shape.
If you really want some radical difference in characteristics, you should consider the x 14 pro or the 14V2 production model, depending on area of use of course.

I've been trying to explain to everyone there are major problems with what the catalog says and the actual product.  It's not an SIC thing, it's fricken Braly Joy and Flow Sports marketing BS

everything was so much more simple, cut and dry before Flow Sports came into the scene with global marketing, a bunch of groupies if you ask me. All the boys in Hawaii have been using SIC products for years, when everything was Hawaii built customs.
