Who is the oldest person you know of that surfs on an SUP?

I was wondering what the age limit was for elderly people SUSing.  (not flatwater paddling, surfing)  Of course, there is no real age limit, but I expect that at some point, people are no longer strong enough to SUS as they age.  I know a gentleman who surfs at San Onofre on a waveski who is in his mid 70's.  I think SUSing is a little more strenuous than buttboarding, so I was interested to find out how old the old guys are.  Who do you know or know of?

I know of John Zapotocky who SUP'ed until his early 90's.

Back in the late 80s, it was Doc who surfed into his early 90s.  As for SUS, my buddies Chris and Mike,  both are in their late 60s.

Mr Big will be 66 very soon  and surf sups in the tropical waters of New  England. Mr Creek is a spry youngster still chasing waves everywhere at soon to be 65. Must be the balmy calm conditions here!

I'll be 67 this January, Fuck!  Mickey was 76 this year, and there was a guy who did the BOP distance race that is older than him. Boyum is a kid--63 I think, Gerry Lopez is 63 or 4. I forget whether his brother Victor is older or younger, but Victor consistently pisses me off by looking 40. Lots of geezers out at Kanaha every day.

We geezers did a super long session this morning. I joked with Greg (Coversurfer) on the phone that I was driving with my hands on my lap using my fingers, but I really was.

Just keep moving. And stay off that fricken' tour bus.

Victor,  and I are 63 and his bro is a year older.   Bill Foote is also 63 and he shreds.    PBill is the oldest I know and he's a die hard.  Today we did almost 4 hrs out there.  A record for me for SUS.  Saw PBill power into many.  Fun day.  Most of the guys out there are over 50 at least.  Keeping injury free is the key.  Injuries are a black hole.  If you're over 50 you should be practicing risk management.

I know a feller here on Maui that's in his 70's that still rips.  Met him over the summer at 1k peaks and noserides like a champ.

I'll be 64 this month, and I am just learning SUS a couple of months.

My neighbor is 75 and he goes out regularly, doesn't mind challenging the proners at the regular breaks.  He has trouble with the stairs at Private's in Santa Cruz now because of military related injuries, but if the board is in the water, he is on it and ready to go, amazing guy.

Young gun, on the beach saw me climbing over the rocks as I finished up a 2 hour session Sunday... it was below freezing, well overhead and howling winds....challenging conditions for everyone.... he looked at me & my 8'10 SUP and asked with more than a bit of doubt... "How'd that go for you?"

One of the local Ocean Beach surf legends is 80 year old Mouse. He got a new 9 foot Hobie raw for his birthday. He surfs every day there is surf. I,ll look for a picture of him.

I love this topic because it lets me know that at 50 I have the potential of many years of active fun still left to enjoy. I see several folks in their 60's and 70's out all the time, but for friends we surf with a couple in Santa Barbara and she's 60 (something) and learned to sup surf just recently.  I think that taking the sport up in your 50's or 60's is very doable.  If your body doesn't force you out of the water, then there's no reason to leave.

Mouse at 81 years old. He and his band of ruffians pioneered surfing the Sunset Cliffs surf spots in San Diego.

Yesterday Skip Fry was out surfing the same break as I was. Rather than surf his usual 10 foot plus board he was on a 7' fish and carving turns as smooth as ever.

The oldest SUSer I know personally is Pono.

Some folks hit the genetic lottery, others take good care of themselves...when the two come together its off the charts. The oldest paddler I've met was an 86 year old women (who had the body of a 30 year old.. ) and was introducing her 81 year old friend to SUP. I saw her again at last years Run of the Charles...at 88...racing in a kayak. I can only dream of being that active that late in life.
