Ke Nalu "Honu" new entry level blade
« on: August 06, 2013, 02:56:40 AM »
Introducing the "Honu". The Honu is a tough, fiberglass reinforced, nylon blade based on the Wiki design. It’s great for beginning paddlers or rental fleets but it’s also an excellent whitewater blade due to its bomb proof construction. With a complete (uncut) paddle coming in at just over 25oz. it’s our heaviest paddle but still amongst the lightest in its class. The complete paddle comes standard with an xTuf or xTuf”S” (uni-directional pre-preg carbon) shaft and a light weight carbon handle. It’s a great buy when comparing to any other entry level paddle on the market, and with our component system if you’ve found it’s time to upgrade, all you need is a new blade & you’ll have a top of the line paddle.

Does it hot glue in the shaft without any issues using a heat gun? How careful do I need to be, to avoid melting it?

I've got some old Kenalu shafts laying around. At only $45, I could glue this blade in and package it with a board I need to sell. Newbie's shopping on Craig's List always ask "does it come with a paddle"  ???  They drive me nuts  ;D

Can you make me a $15 plastic handle to go with it  ;D ;D ;D

Hi DW, I think less care needs to be taken with these than the Elites or xTuf blades, it's pretty rigid plastic & has a lot of glass fiber reinforcement.

If the tooling costs weren't so ridiculous I'd consider a plastic handle but for what it'd cost to make 'em it's really not worth it.

Excuse the basic question....I'm new and still digging through the Ke Nalu paddle posting.....I'm a few dozen pages in and still plugging along.

Does it have the shaft that's so sweet on the shoulders?

That would be the xTuf or the xTuf-S shafts; and "YES" it comes 'standard' with your choice of either one (plus a handle)...      Paddle on,    JD

Great concept. I have been talking paddles with lots of newbies lately... I now have something with affordable quality to recommend to them.  ;D
