So, if one buys a larger ProWave to compensate, loses some of the maneuverability, and may still be a bit less stable.  The extra speed can help catch waves?

Thanks for responding, Bill

Hey Bill, sorry it doesn't work that way.  If you are comparing the same length of boards, a ProWave will actually be more difficult to paddle, slower, less glide and be more tippy because of the narrowness and lower volume.  It will not float as much with the lower volume, sitting lower in the water.  It will be more difficult to catch waves and you will need to be a stronger paddler with better balance and experience in catching waves.  Where it will be faster is after the wave is caught and you are moving across the face of a steep wave; the advanced design will make it have a higher top speed.  Slower paddling flat water, faster top speed on a wave.

That being said, most advanced paddle surfers would have more fun on the more difficult board because they have to skills to make it work.  So the AllWaves are more user friendly, with respectable performance.  The ProWaves are less user friendly, with high performance capabilities.

I am about to sell my AllWave.  So, if you are in SoCal, you are welcome to give it a try.

The smaller Prowaves are way more difficult than the Allwaves...but:

The 9'6 Prowave is very stable... and can be surfed more aggressively down the line than the 8'10 Allwave.

I wanted more drive frontside, so I sold my 8'10 Allwave (145L) and bought a 9'6 Prowave  (153L)

The 9'6 is 31.25 wide with thickish rails so it is sort of a "big boy" Prowave

The next size down is a big jump to 9'2 x 30.5  (130L)

I needed something for bigger winter conditions and find the Prowave a great choice, but it turns out, it works great in small summer waves as well ;D

I know that this is an old thread...but I got a lot of detail from it and I just bought an Allwave from JimK so back to the top it goes.   Great deal.  Fast shipping.  I love the board.  Only problem is that my wife stole it!  It is a 9' 5" so it is a bit big for her but she took to it right away and now it is her favorite flat water/yoga/goof-around board.   We are heading to Cali to go paddle surfing in a couple weeks and I am going to steal it right back!

An AllWave of the appropriate size for a 115 pound person is definitely in her future.
