Wow. Very wide!!!

It'll be interesting how they surf.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

We bought the board below in the spring from JD and it's a 9-0 by 32.  That size is so very surfable without giving up the stability that makes SUP enjoyable in various conditions.  I think you're gonna love that shape, and width when the juicy stuff hits.  Our board is rather thick at 4.5" but at that volume, even I can ride it at 255lb/116kg.

No, we're not all Kai Lenny, but if he every wants to trade bodies with me, I can guarantee the offensive line coach will give him a second look.  ;)

Ok so this has thrown me....I was thinking about the new Mana 8'5" as my step down from my first board (Mana 9'5")...

But that 8'3" is tempting...anyone paddled one? stable enough for a 5'11" 88 kg guy?

Those big boys are pretty obese.  9'1" is 5" thick.

That's a great looking board! you'll be catching plenty and RIPPING! AND not fighting the thing for balance. People forget with SUP there's the balance factor involved.
No Balance = No FUN
Boards:

8-10 x 31 Egg
8-11 X 32 Double wing Fangtail Tom Whitaker
8-6 X 30 1\2  Inbetweener Tom Whitaker
8-4 x 30 Hyper quad Tom Whitaker (wife's now)
8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker
9-4 X 30 1\2. Swallow Stinger Quad Tom Whitaker (ex wifes now)
10-0 Brusurf for teach

The thickness will change the way it surfs? will it still be performance at 4'5 think?

Knowing thickness tells you nothing about the rail thickness. When you see high thickness numbers today, it usually means heavy deck dome.  Most newer shapes have thin rails regardless of thickness.

Also that V on the bottom accounts for some extra thickness. Numbers are taken on the stringer!

Consider this for a moment....

If that 5" thick board had a flat deck and single concave bottom, the thickness would measure out at 4.25 and nobody would think anything of it.  And BOTH the 5" and 4.25" versions would have identical rail thickness.

Thickness is the most misunderstood and misleading factor in surf design
