Japan next
« on: November 11, 2013, 11:19:04 AM »
Go to Tokyo often  on business, so next Week i am taking a day off and going down to Kamakura to paddle and stay a night before going back to madness.
Staying at the Kamejikan guest house ( www.kamejikan.com/eng) and renting from Okuda Style ( www.Padobo.com)
Be interesting.....

Shichirigahama is probably best bet today for small Reef break SUP waves, offshore wind most of the day, about 1foot, it's the next bay south of where you are renting the SUP,  20 min paddle.

This is the nearby report

Here are the local web cams on the beach at shichirigahama

Take a quick flight to Okinawa. You'll enjoy it.

Got here and its a nice beach, bay and town. But windy as hell, windsurfers out on 4,5m sails. They say its unusual to get this wind. So no paddling.
Ill come back, its really close to Tokyo, I can come here directly from Narita, get in a session and return to Tokyo, ready to work the next day. No need to stay over night.
Saw 3-4 shops with SUP rental on east side of bay and one on west side during bike ride around town and up the coast.

I'm curious—why Kamakura?  :)

Well, Kamakura is a beautiful place, sounds great. I used to take day trips there when I was in Tokyo for work. Sounds great.

Kamakura is lovely. I got to visit once about ten years ago and went to see the big Buddha. :) I'm just wondering if the OP chose it because there's a SUP community there. Technically, Tokyo Bay is closer to Narita but I imagine that would be like trying to SUP in the East River in NYC, i.e. ill advised.

Kamakura is best in summer , we got about 10 really good typhoons this year some double over head faces.

For winter I prefer it here in Hawaii :)
