Impressive. Much better position on the board. Makes it a lot easier, eh?

Yes!
Thanks.
Bill, I could hear you yelling at me on that wave,  so I stood tall and
faced forward with broad shoulders.  *click*

So, I'm not sure who reads this section of the forum, but...

I just wanted to say that after SUP'ing 99.9% of the time over the past ten years, I prefer prone-foiling to SUP-foiling (for now, at least).
Prone foiling is much more of a challenge.  I'm always out of position, take way too many waves on the head and exhaust myself paddling around just to get a couple glides.
When I get on the SUP-foil, it's so much easier.  It's not boring, but I don't feel as challenged.
Hell, I'm still a total n00b.  Can't really do nice turns and I fall all the time.

Just curious if anyone who may read this wants to reply if they have tried both disciplines.

Hi Craig

I have watched James Casey foil on his tiny prone foil.... almost looks like a hand-plane.

He sits inside of the breaking waves and simply catches the white-water..... then he jumps up takes a few "pumps" and he is out on the face, killing it on his tiny board.

He is able to do amazing things on that little board.... and then pumping back out is much easier than on his SUP foil boards.

I chose this pic simply to show the small size of his board.... I believe ha may have an even smaller board now.

I'm addicted to whitewater takeoffs, but that's because I'm old and slow. James spent quite a bit of time on Maui this year, he was impressive no matter what board he's on. Those darned kids and their tiny boards piss me off. I could no more do that than I could fly by flapping my arms. Hell, getting back to my feet on the stable platform of Mr. Fugly takes so much time I'd be on the beach before I got into a wave. Dave Kalama saw me wobbling to my feet last year and said "Hey Bill, are you alright?" Very solicitous. I considered whacking him with my paddle.

I've done neither but I've been intensely curious for the past 3 years.

The same reason I went from a 11'6 SUP to a 7'11...loads more fun...loads more challenge.

I can't pull the trigger financially on a foil choice since the cost of entry is so steep and I don't know where I'll land...SUP or prone.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

Nice, you dog. Is that Bowls or just Ala Moana? Locals get kind of testy at Bowls.

Bill, somewhere between Trestles and Tijuana.  ;D

But I will be in Maui next week! Definitely bringing my foil gear.
