Dark Water and Dropped Paddles
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:02:44 PM »
Now that winter seems to have arrived early, I find that my new carbon paddle and the graphite-coloured water are the same colour.  I've dropped it a few times and had a few anxious moments looking for it.

I'm going to work on not letting go.  But knowing that stuff happens, some painted day-glow bands or reflector tape seem like a good idea.  Anybody else with similar experience?

I sprayed my paddle blade bright yellow. It makes it highly visible & makes me feel more comfortable offshore on downwinders - if I wave at someone I want to be seen!

I have a similar situation during late evening sessions in the surf, where a dropped paddle can be a common occurence, compounding the problem, water can sometimes be murky too.

A nice red bicycle grip for the lower hand area, electrical tape wrapping around the paddle and grip joints also in bright colors, preferrably lifesaving orange-or yellow...
For the blade, a couple of bright colored stickers and colored tape around the blade-rail protective too.
Finally, some small mirror tape cut in triangles or just strips can catch some light and it's reflection can help finding the paddle.
