laminate schedule
« on: September 22, 2013, 11:40:51 AM »
Will order materials soon for 5m board in 1lb foam- see other thread.
Plan is to use wetout table.

I have been planning to seal the blank, put down 200 g twill carbon and then 160 g twill glass. - Both sides and over lapped on rails. Will put extra layer carbon on standing deck area.

This sound right?

One other issue.

The blank is super flexible. If I laminate it without vbag, I can support it and be ok.
But I am still considering vbagging it. I feel it will give me more compact laminate.
(Will use wetout table).
Dont want to double  bag it with rocker template to keep shape.
So I had this (crazy? ) idea to hand laminate a CF tape down center of board on both sides to give it some stiffness before vbag.
Or I could put CF tape around rail and have the extra strength there. But wonder it that would make it hold its rocker shape.
Both options cause some finish problems, but can be solved with some epoxy and micro ballons.

Advice welcome

Sounds like the best idea to me. I think it will do what you want.

Putting carbon on the rail is really hard to do. When I tried it, it was a disaster.

I helped a buddy put carbon on the rails once.  We got a roll of Saran Wrap, one person on each end, pulled it out longer than the board and pulled it taut while holding it above the rails, lowered it placed it over the carbon and then smoothed it down.  Worked pretty slick for us, but I think it's better to pull the wrap after the epoxy has set, but before it's fully hard, to get it to come off whole.  Otherwise you will prob have a little more sanding because the plastic will come off more in pieces.
