SUP training facility???
« on: August 25, 2013, 05:42:26 PM »
Does anyone know of a place in the US that is a SUP race training facility? There is/was a Speedboard facility being built here in MA but have not heard any updates for a long time. It would be awesome to go somewhere for a few days and get some major 1 on 1 or small group training in stroke and race techniques similar to a canoe training facility.

Jim Terrel has the Flume in Southern California

Jim Terrel also has some good videos.

And Larry Cain has his blog and videos

Hope that helps.

Those LC vids are priceless and the Flume looks cool. I'm loiking for more of a destination spot like a surf camp but geared to racing. Maybe it's not a viable biz right now, hopefully the Speedboard place comes to fruition. Till then, it's 2 hour group clinics and LC vids.

Kalama Kamps. http://www.kalamakamp.com/ And I think Jeremy Riggs is putting something similar together. The Hood River KK is the most technique-intensive one. the rest are more surfing and having fun.

If you're a kid, the Big Wind development teams here in Hood River are da bomb. The kids coming out of that program are going to be challenging Hawaii's best very soon. We grownups should talk Steve Gate into doing something similar for us, though I don't think I want to all the pushups he has those kids do.

Last time I talked to Bob Blair it sounded like the speedboard training thing is dependent on government grants to get rolling. Could happen, but it's tough to start something new like that these days.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
