‎some things fishy just got smaller!
« on: August 09, 2013, 02:49:03 PM »
starved of waves and dw conditions here im getting plenty of workshop time, still in love with my 7'10 that seams to be going so well for every one who rides it i though it was time to step it up and scale it down.

im using the 7'10 now as my every day big go to board, i have even paddled it in a 5k distance race without coming last! so looking for a step down board that is short yet can still cope with a bit of chop to fill in the gap between the 7'10 and my 7'4 thruster.

The plan is 7'4 x 28 x 3 3/4 . A modified outline with a slightly fuller nose wanting to keep the length down but a little width for stability and just enough thickens to float me comfortably.

Looks good, Charlie. My next blank has a nose much like yours. Man you are turning them out!  Your race board looks cool! Always a pleasure to follow your builds, so keep the pics coming.

managed to find time to shape this little fishy yesterday will be interesting to see how much more stable it is than the 7'4 truster. i was given a set of numbers for a different fin placement a guy said works super well for short board fish however its a fare bit different to what i normally do on my 7'10 so im not sure now which to go for. my placement is has been 13" 1/2 forward of the tail and 5"3/4 for the rear from the tail. when i am surfing this my back foot is right between the fin or a fraction closer to the rear   the measurements that i have been given  are 11" for the front and 5" 1/4 for the rear which puts the front of the rears in line with the butt crack.

the second decision to make is colour do i go with a more modern looking spray or go for a funky more classic resin swirl? if any hasn't figured by now im very indecisive  :D

Have you tried large twin fin type fins (5") in the front and small GS type in the rear?

i tried the future k1s in the front with a mixture of rears and it was not good. The first fish i did was intended to be a twin but the boxes were in the wrong place so put two more in and it transformed it so have stuck like that ever since. One day i will build one as a twin again.

managed to get it finished and wet for the first time yesterday and very pleased with how it went its going to be a great step down from the 7'10 fish.

Jesus Charlie, that's spectacular!  Was that pigment streak/swirl difficult to do? Would you mind describing how you did it?

its  wasn't hard to do but i think it could probably be done a hole lot better. from what ive read it is harder to do it with epoxy than poly. basically i just masked the deck for a cut lap mixed a few colours in cups and pored it on in thin stripes and then dragged  it off.
