Santa Cruz Summer Doldrums
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:59:31 PM »
Well, it is summertime in Santa Cruz, ain't much happening, but we (my son will join me - and outsurf me -  tomorrow) will try dawn patrol at Sharks.  Surfline downgraded the swell, probably closer to reality, but with SUS and small wave gear, thankfully we don't need much.  Every day in the water...  what a blessing!

Surf-forecast.com is still predicting a bit of swell.  They are only about 65 percent accurate, anyway.  I will be out after 12.

I can barely wake up before 10AM, much less dawn patrol.  Guess I would have to re-work my habits.  Too bad, because it is just about the most beautiful time of day.

I'm visiting as well.  That linked forecast is showing only a foot and a half for P Point through
the weekend. I'm going to come down from SF on friday and enjoy a little offsore poinbreak.
At that size crowds should be mellow i guess.
Up pacifica way more swell but blown out till the weekend. Maybe saturday morning.

It's been a good week so far.  Jumbled surf this morning - the waves couldn't decide which direction they were coming from or what interval they wanted...  Still I caught a decent ride, stepping back further for turns and trimming for speed when needed.  (7 wipeouts to each good ride - my average is improving!)
Sunday we were surfing right off the cliff at Steamers.  Monday flat water tour from the Wharf to out past Lovers' Point in Monterey.  Tuesday off.  Tomorrow we'll try dawn patrol again.  Stoked to be with my son this week.
