Melt down today
« on: June 08, 2013, 12:45:51 AM »
My wife had just returned from the mainland the night before.  Woke up late (6am) today feeling slightly sleepy like I had a few hrs left to sleep, which is never the case.  Made some arrangements to drop truck off for a new windshield and also started talking to paddlers for a rescue pickup for me, for a run since I didn't have a vehicle.

Back home making a smoothie for my first food of the day, I had an overwhelming feeling of fatigue and dropped to the floor and room was spinning on my back so rolled over to side which was slightly better.  Very nauseous, incommunicable, and sweating ungodly amounts.  Shirley called the 911 and the fireman came and off I went on my first ride in a meat wagon.  MMormorial hooked me up to god knows what and after a few hours they released me with drugs that have helped with the nauseousness and spinning.  Sweated buckets in a short time when it happened.  You could wring water out of my shirt when I took it off.  Still don't know what the cause is other than this vague 'Vertigo'  but obviously it screwed my ass up.  Blood pressure, HR and CT scan of brain showed no obvious problems.  Maybe an inner ear infection.  So I don't know, still don't feel great and don't feel like eating, but not bad comparatively.  I think about being out on the water when something like that happens and I might be in very dire straits...

So I'll have to ease back into exercise.

Nice to have my two mates, Victor and JR and especially Shirley in the hospital with me.... even when you can't talk back,  the force is still there and you're laughing .... inside.

Interested to know about anyone else's symptoms and recovery...

Wow Bill

I am truly sorry to hear you had this happen to you. I am so glad it was not a stroke :) My wife has had major bad bouts of vertigo in the past but no sweating involved. Did the doctors rule out dehydration ?? I know you have been doing a lot of runs lately.

My friend got super dehydrated and he was nauseous and spinning (dizzy) and sweating like a pig. We had to put Ice packs on his stomach and chest and wait till the ambulance came and administered an IV. not saying you were that bad but it might have a part in the puzzle ??

I am very glad you are OK !!  take care my man and keep us posted .

Aloha Bill

Hope it clears up fast for you.  If the doctors had no clue, I doubt it's serious.

Probably just a weird reaction to something in the ocean.

I'll bet you are right as rain in a day or so.

Wow Bill, that sounds scary, for you and for Shirley. If its any consolation, I had a bout of vertigo about 10 years ago and had very similar symptoms, nausea, profuse sweating the lot. All I did to bring it on was lean over my desk to pick something up off the floor. Came on fast and hard, thought I was having a stroke, scary. Took me a couple of days to get over it and never had it again.
Keep well,  J

I had the same symptoms once, but with stomach cramps. It was something I eat that caused it. It could also be that your blood sugar dropped. Check your diet  :-\ You should follow up with a doctor’s visit and get a complete checkup. That way you can get back out there with peace of mind.

Don't ignore it. Don't assume the ER guys got it right. I would start with a full checkup of heart with a specialist. Again not something you want to ignore. Get better!

Geeze Bill... that sucks!
I am glad you didn't get out on the water before it hit.
I had food poisoning come on similar to that once... fine one minute...
then a flickering thought of "what the hell was that?"
then it hit me like a truck. Good as new the next day.
Yours sounds more inner ear... you find some exotic microbe's  in warm water.

Find out, fix it and be well.

I would have a paddler behind me for  the next few runs, just for peace of mind.... and maybe a life vest?

Keep us in the loop... you have a lot of friends pulling for you :)

Well that's spooky. You're not on one of those "cleansing" diets again are you? Could be a lot of things. I had a virus infection once that made the little chamber in my inner ear sticky. When I turned my head I'd fall down. That was fun. Took a while to get over it, but no repeats.

Get well buddy. We got stuff to do.

As far as dehydration, I'd just woke up and had one glass of water with a little lime in it as usual.  Then drove into town to drop the truck before smoothie.  Making smoothie was when it happened but I'd felt funny from the moment I woke up.

Feel much better this morning, tho a little wiped out from yesterday's fallout.  Ears still plugged so I'm betting that's the issue.  Going to see MD today.

No cleansing diets.  Everything was routine before.

Thanks to all for kind words and thoughts.

Bill,

Mother in law had warily similar experience. Happened at my office. ER, stay I hospital. The whole deal. They prescribed some very specific exercises. it was vertigo. She does the exercises every day and has not had a relapse. That was a year ago. I will see if there is a web site w the exercises.

Be well mi amigo,
