Paddle Fit
« on: June 02, 2013, 10:49:02 AM »
Hey, just finished the levels 1 + 2 Paddle Fit cert classes in Westport CT. Met some really great people and had a fun time, but it wasn't quite what i was expecting as far as difficulty goes . Anyone else have similar feelings ?
thanks.

FMS - I've looked into it but never done it. Downunder is my "local" area where i go to paddle.  from the description of the class i could never tell if it is just a paddle fitness class, something like a class you would see at a gym or if it is for some certification of instruction.
if it's not a challenge, i'm not sure it is something that i'd be too interested in.  a few years ago, i did a "lesson" or two and left thinking this is sort of self-explanatory. think i mostly did the lesson so that it wasn't a solo paddle, not many people were on boards in this area then.

Did you race at all on Saturday in the Soundsurfer?  I thought it was a pretty fun event, had to bail right after i did the fun paddle.

My name is Brody and I am the founder of PaddleFit.  Thank you for your review and we really do appreciate the feedback.

A few things to remember.  The certification is a coach and professional facing educational system.  We are there to pass on information to you in an organized and efficient manner.   While we do want to challenge you, our main focus is to help you with a proven progression for your clients.  The PaddleFit method and system has been developed by myself and others who have given over 10,000 documented SUP lessons as well as my involvement with Kalama Kamp we have a lot of Dave's teachings.   Many of the top coaches and athletes use the system.

We also have 3 levels for the certification.  I have detailed what you get with all three levels below but here is a simpler version.

Level 1: You will learn water safety and how to introduce someone to the sport of SUP in a safe and effective manner.

Level 2: You will learn a technique progression to take some one from a begginer paddler to an intermediate paddler.  You will also learn intro to fitness and training classes as well as intro to race training.

Level 3: Technique progression from intermediate to advanced paddler as well as intermediate to advanced coaching, fitness and race training.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  We have over 500 coaches in North America and a ton of perks that we provide for our coaches..

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you
Brody

FMS, you haven't told us what you expected nor what they did or didn't do.

I took PaddleFit 1 and 2 last month at the Carolina Cup with Brody. Did I find it challenging, no. But I didn't expect to find it too challenging. Instead I expected to learn methods of teaching and to sure up some of my skills. I look at it as a foundation to build upon and grow as a teacher and paddler myself. It inspired me to start a business on my own and gave me skills to utilize with my clients that I know are proven and will work.  It's what you do after the certification and clinics that matter most, you need to take the info and skills learned and build upon them.

I took a PaddleFit Level 1 and 2 in MI.  I didn't find it challenging in terms of learning new skills.  But I was interested in learning the instructional model, which I found to be pretty similar to what I generally do anyway.  It was good to see the teaching model.

I found the fitness component of level 2 more fun and more my style in terms of where I would want to be with any groups I might work with.

2 Questions on the affiliate program:

"Access to Affiliate marketing program"
1) what is this? looks like becoming an affiliate requires a substantial investment of time, energy and money... how does PF help customers find affiliates?

2) Are affiliates provided liability insurance by PF? I like the entrepreneurial aspects of all this, but insurance can be prohibitive if borne by one individual.

The program looks cool, but it may be helpful if the perks were more fully explained...buzz words are only so helpful  ;)
