Perhaps with some type of backing material inside the suit to keep the thread from pulling through?
Now if somebody made a wetsuit with a loop like that, we'd be on to something.  I actually considered it, but I think the drag from the paddle would just pull the stitching through the neoprene.

Checked with my wife who thinks this is totally possible.

On a wetsuit is a great idea since so many SUP in cold water.

Bumping this thread.  Anyone else made or experimented with a paddle loop?  I'm interested to hear anyone else's thoughts or experiences.

Somehow I missed this topic back in January.

I just had a situation last week in the surf where I had to swim to shore and really needed to let go of my paddle and I came up with the same idea.

I would use quarter inch shock cord which West Marine sells real cheap by the foot.

The loop on the board shorts is fine for summer but in winter, with mittens, having the loop that low would be almost impossible to use.

So I'm going to sew one into the collar of my drysuit. It has to be up high so you can get at it when in the water up to your neck. The loop will have to be on the end of a cord about 18 inches long so that dragging the paddle won't interfere with swimming. When I need to I'll just put the loop over the handle, throw the paddle over my shoulder and swim.

If I were attaching one to a wetsuit, I would probably sew the cord along one of the seams.

Don't bother with regular thread. Unwaxed dental floss is ten times stronger.
