Naish Glide 2010
« on: May 28, 2013, 07:41:37 AM »
I have the Opp to purchase a Naish Glide 2010 at a great price.

Who has this board? Do you like it? I see that they have made some major changes on the board in 2011 and 2012/2013.

What was this board good at? What was it bad at? What did they change and why?

I'm a big dude and want it for flat water paddling and also some lighter wind downwinders and the Cape Cod Bay Challenge.

Please advise asap since I want to make a quick decision.

Thanks so much people, you all have been very helpful.

And God, the SUP surf in Newport was so sick on Sat!!!

Regards,
Greg aka Skyrocket

FYI: It's the plain old white one with black lettering, not the carbon version.

Here's a really good thread comparing the old and new glides.  Lots of rocker on the old models so probably not the best for flatwater.  But at the right price, I'm the kind of person who's OK not having the ideal.

Thanks Bulky B. Yeah, my sense is the trade off is in flatwater. I live in Boston so there is always wind, not true flat water.

On the plus side, it seems from that thread the more pronounced rocker on the old one comes in handy in larger swell on true downwinders.

This sport and gear has gotten so specialized that I see people with two boards:
one for flat, one for downwinder. I would much rather lose some functionality on the flat water side than to buy a flat water board and try to bring that into surf, ouch.

Net/net its like a cross trainer bike, double function but not best of breed for either function respectively.

In the end, I'm sure its much better than my 9'6" Fanatic All Wave for flat water which is what I am using now!LOL

Yeah.  I started out with an Imagine Sprinter which was really great on flatwater (even though I never had any to try it on).  Was a battle in open ocean (especially for a big guy like me), but I used it for a couple years.  Like was said on your other thread.  The new Glide with less rocker is really a good "if you can only have one" 14er.  That's where I'm at.  The wife is pretty patient with the quiver, but I don't think I'm gonna push it by having two 14s.

Gonna be in Boston in a few weeks for a wedding.  Wish I could paddle out but I don't dare test the collective female wrath it might unleash amongst my family. (Mom, wife, 2 sisters, in-laws, etc).
