« on: May 23, 2013, 02:37:38 AM »
hi friends,
i sold my 10,6 board thati  learned catching waves on last year.
what would be the next logical step? the hokua seems nice and i read somewhere thati will carry my 85 kilos without problems.
will it ride a straight?
thnks in advance,

I weight quite a bit more than you and my biggest board is the 9'0'' hokua...the 9'10 will easily carry you.

What waves are you surfing? My 9'0'' hokua is my go to board. I have more boards, but the hokua can take any wave. It is not only a board for the steepest waves (though it takes those with ease), but it also goes on the ankle snappers.

I think you could probably get away with the 9'5'' I have not ridden the 9'10'' but found the 9'5'' to be super stable.

The hokua are made for shortboard type riding and I've had some drops on the board that feels absolutely unreal...the ones where you are zooming down the line at high speed and feel like the only thing that is on the wave is 1 foot of rail and a fin.

I've also gone over the falls on a double overhead wave and the board survived no problem. They are built tough.

If you are more into shortish longboarding (dunno how to explain this one) a diamond from the mana line up is the 8'10..that board is very stable and a gem IMO, but it will not take the same drops that the hokua does...

I have recently bought a Hokua 9'5 .... dropping down from my Laird 10'6...and I am about 85kg also ...
I also have a Coreban Fusion 9', which I like it a lot.

But I went with the Hokua 9'5 because of trying to get more speed ... but I am not good enough (yet) for a Hokua 9'.

I am an intermediate surfer ... and my wave size comfortable zone is 3' to 5' .... although I have surfed up to 8' on my 10'6....but not yet on the Fusion or Hokua.
So I would let others comment on the more "performance" capabilities of the Hokua line.

What I can add, and that  impressed me a lot was that on the Hokua 9'5, I was also able to catch and surf "small ..wind waves" that I thought I would only catch on the 10'6 (or bigger) board.
So for me, the Hokua 9'5, due to its volume and a bit wider nose than the 9' and smaller, are very stable and a pretty well overall board !

The only draw back to me is that I used to paddle about 1.5 mile each way to go to my favorite break...and that on the 10'6 was a nice paddle cruise. Now with the Hokua, it can be a bit of a work out ! :)

I hope this helps you...

Just one more comment ...
When deciding for the Hokua 9'5, I was also considering the new Coreban Reactor 9'3.
And I only decided for the Hokua because of "time" and availability ....
But I have heard that both boards are very  "comparable" .... So maybe you would like to check it out if you have the time.

thanks for the infos. believe it or not, i ordered a 10,65 naish nalu ast. anything else kinda sold out here in germany. the thing that bugged me most about my older board was the thruster fins and it felt very high. i also like the fact, that the nalu has a rounder nose, so it will not dip that deep like my older board. imralls hope the nalu is also bulletproof  like the hokua. so far so good, eddie
