Drafting Video
« on: May 02, 2013, 04:39:31 PM »
We have a weekly Wednesday Night race, mostly surf skis and outriggers, usually I am the only SUP there, so I take my 19' unlimited.  I start about one minute ahead of the main field and try to hang on for dear life when they pass me. No drafting rules, no prizes, it's a total free-for-all. Some of the best intensity training I get... Like motor pacing on a bicycle behind a car...

Video gets a bit grainy at the end, the GoPro lens didn't like the setting sun...

That was awesome!  You were cruising... you average 7.8+ mph for what length distances?  I was once in a race with a bunch of different sit down vessels.  I had a blast mixing it up.  They are definitely way faster.

Thanks XLR8... It is a great training tool to get whooped by faster craft!
I only maintained 7+ mph for the first 1/2 mile as it was a slight downwind and I was fresh...
On the opposite side of the course in the headwind I had trouble keeping it over 6 mph. My avg speed for the loop was 6.1 mph while some of the fast skis avg 7.5-8mph!
