BOB's New Dewey
« on: August 28, 2008, 02:43:43 PM »
I just ran up to San Clemente to pick up my new Dewey Weber SUP.
It is 10"6"X29"X4.5".  Jerry O"Keefe shaped it for me off the old 1968 Weber Stylist (one of my all-time favorite surfboards).  ;D
ps: that's my orange Steamroller fan club hat ;)

The WEBERPERFORMER series was one of the classics all right, beautiful boards & design. I can see more classic longboard models being made into a functional standups. Only problem ...ya don't want to cover anything classic like that with a pad. Hopefully a good clear pad may be in the future.

That's a beautiful board, surfcal!  I love classic-looking boards that remind me of my grom days in the early 60s.  :)

Ooooh. That is one fine looking ride. I love the colors with that classic shape. There's some clear no-wax stuff around, it works pretty good, but it seems too rough for a full time pad.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Thanks, everybody. I have been a "classics rider" since before they were classics ;D.
I have yellow and red traction that I will install tonight. My paln will be to just go over the red with red and splice up some yellow down the middle. I will put the clear deck tape on the nose.  I might even cut in a Weber Logo insert.
Tomorrow should be the maiden voyage.

So Cool!  I had a '67 Performer as a teenager (in the 90's).  In fact I used to standup on it to look for sets!  I had no idea that I have been SUPing for so long!  It had the hatchet fin and all.  Great board Bob!

That board looks really cool. I like the stripes. Looking forward to in-layered color pad design with stripes.

I have a similar idea I want to do after seeing a friends (Mr. Royce) board in Maui. Don't for get the Pics  ;)

Aloha........Sam

Here's my attempt at custom traction.
By the way, The Weber rode very nicely.  It had a classic longboard feel and glide to it. It was stable enought for me but I did get a slight hint of tippiness due to the rolled bottom.  The paddle was good, even though I won't try a TA-Hoe seven miler.
It got into waves effortlessly and you could feel the nose dropping in.  It is a smooth turning board with big graceful rail to rail transitions.
I found that I was riding it more like a surfboard, and gaining a lot of down the line speed.
The surf was about 3 feet in the chest high range and very peakie today.  It was a good test  for the DW.
