S glass?
« on: April 04, 2013, 09:37:20 AM »
I've got a new board on order and I'm wondering if I should go with S glass?  What are the advantages/disadvantages?  It will have carbon rails if that matters and it will only be used in surf (7'10"x31").  Thoughts?

Stringer?

Weight of foam?

If stringerless, then get the S.

Cost more, but stronger.  Use it if you can afford it.  Doesn't really cost that much more per board.  I've been using it for years on my surfboards.

Money on S glass upgrade is money well spent! Durability between E and S glass is significant.

I like S glass as I find it worthy even though long ago a well respected board builder once tried to convince me that it was a waste of money.  Too many dings that can often happen so easily with cheap E glass can end up costing more in the long run.

Ive always had E on my surfboards but I'm pretty sure I'm going with S on my next sup. does anyone know approx how much weight I'd save by percentage with S compared to the exact same board in E?

With the same glass schedule, they should weigh the same, just end up with a stronger board.
