No FCS 11' coiled calf leash?
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:27:38 AM »
I was just in contact with the Swedish importer of FCS stuff. I had ordered a 11' coiled calf leash. It was to arrive in their spring order but it didn't and now the importer say that FCS no longer makes the calf version. Is that out of "fashion" or something?

Which other manufacturer makes calf 11' leashes of good quality? Please help!

Interesting.....

I recently needed to switch to a calf leash to nurse my hip injury back to health. So I went shopping for one at a place called "The Longboard House". You would think a place specializing in longboards would have dozens of them. The guy behind the counter said, I doubt we have ANY.

Made me wonder if the calf leash is going extinct.

Anyway, buy any calf leash and exchange the cuff with a coil leash for ankles.

Coiled leashes usually end up like coiled telephone cords: knotted and twisted. Perhaps that is why you can't find any for sale. If you don't like the leash dragging in the water, try tucking the loop into a waist belt of some sort.

what DW said.  Your fin system allen key should fit the allen screw at the cuff swivel.  Simply switch them out to configure them as you need.

Amen.  I borrowed a board that had a coiled leash. Horrific knots, major PITA !  Can't imagine why anyone would use one.  No issues with my regular straight leash.  YMMV.....

Okay thanks. Going to start looking for a surf leash instead.

definitely not for surfing but great for flat water paddling since it doesn't drag in the water.

More drag than a regular leash.  Surfing with one produces instant knots and shortened length.  I hated them.
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

Surfing is almost impossible here. Just flatwater and some downwinders.

That's where I would prefer a coiled leash, to lay on top of the board, not drag alongside.

Flat water/downwinding = coiled leash
Surfing = straight leash

Henrik, there are lots of other options other than FCS.
Dakine, Surftech, On A Mission...

I'm guessing being in Sweden you're used to being screwed by import duties for most SUP stuff, so man-up and bite the bullet!  ;).    ;D

Cheers
