He's on an 8-10, but looks smaller to me the way it's ridden.

That little kid in the front looks like a Whack-A-Mole.

how do you know it's an 8'10?

It looks to me more like 8'6.

On top of that, he rides it rail to rail so well, I feel like it's impossible it's that long!

Optical illusions blowing my mind.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

You got it Giant.

What he does with the paddle is exactly what I'm trying to achieve; effortless, natural flow.  I see so many Sup'ers never switch the paddle around. Sure, you'll drop it a few times, but it makes the transitions so smooth.

That break has some serious traffic. That's like us trying to drive in India.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Using all the proners a slalom buoys, that's an amazing skill.  There are so many people in his way and he is turning and threading between them like he likes them there.  Amazing.  Super great surfing, too.

Amazing style!  I have probably watched that video at least twenty times and still marvel at his creativity.  The fluidity and turn connection are also nice complements to the slashing and hacking that have become the mainstays of SUP surfing.

That video was the spark that I needed to kick myself in the backside and expand my very narrow range of surfing performance.  Get that back foot squarely on the damn tail block!  Take more chances and risk blowing more waves.

Someone mentioned on another post that they had been out SUSing with a pro and they were surprised to see the quality of their surfing up close and in person.  I have had similar experiences...

My main takeaway from the videos and inperson experiences with pros has always been gaining a better understanding of just what's POSSIBLE out there.  For example, I used to think it was necessary to bail on the paddleout if a wave or whitewash any bigger than knee high was hitting me.  Then one day I went out at Churches with Tommy Lloy and watched him as he paddled out and punched through a wave while it smashed him in the chest; he emerged on the backside totally unfazed.  I still can't do that, but I have surprised myself what I CAN get through now, thanks also to practice on bigger days at Nukes.

Nonetheless, I'm still astounded by screwups at things I thought I had down pat, so I try to keep a sense of humor and keep watching people better than me.

Thank god for youtube and vimeo.
