Sophie's Choice
« on: February 18, 2013, 02:54:25 PM »
Was talking with a friend down at the pier in San Clemente yesterday watching the lousy chopped up mess mock and ridicule us. The conversation turned to equipment and he asked me which board of mine I liked the most, which one I would keep if I could only save one.  I never really appreciated Sophie's Choice until that moment.  It would have to be my 7'8" King's Simmons - may God have mercy on my soul but that board rocks. (Believe the hype). How would you choose if you had to take that long somber walk to the garage and choose only one?

Well, if you ever have to make that choice, simmie's siblings are too cute not to get immediately adopted.

Yeah, you really got the towel bunched up more under that one, it shows.
But w/o riding any of those, I'd pick the same one.
It takes a quiver to do that.

Mach Bobby Roger...

But I would hide the Timsup and say that it didn't count because it was my wife's.

Your use of the term Sophie's Choice when talking about your quiver of toys is highly offensive. In case you don't know, the choice handed to Sophie in the excellent novel and movie was between her two toddlers - upon arrival in the cattle car at the Nazi death camp, she was made to choose which one of her children would go into the ovens so that the other could live; if she refused to choose, both would go into the ovens. I fail to see the parallel with your lifestyle decisions.

onshore, you know that Sophie's Choice is a fiction work? If you get offended by references to imaginary characters you must live a very complicated life :-)

I'm not a fan of PC or anything but I'm with Onshore on this one. I cringed when I saw the title of the thread. This don't call this type of fiction "historical" for nothing.

Holy smokes, it seems like being offended has become a cottage industry, people have got to lighten up.
I'm sure his first thought was to offend.

It takes a quiver to do that.

Offending anyone or being deliberately insensitive was the last thing on my mind, so my deepest apologies for having inadvertently violated the margins of good taste. Only saw the movie, but I had come under the impression that a "Sophie's Choice, had morphed into a modern colloquialism for an impossible decision.
So how about this, which board would you have if you could keep only one?

You mean more like a "Terms of Endearment" choice.
Sad but really happy in the whole general scheme of things.
Take the SimSup.

In California, I would keep the SimSUP.
The Hobie could be the one if you favored only vertical surfing (tight turns in the pocket to hit the lip vertical) at locations with hollow waves.
