Standup - Cape Cod, Southeastern Ma and Rhode Island
« on: August 22, 2007, 09:08:26 PM »
Who's doing what and where? I'm looking for spots to stay out of the way of others while I learn. Looking for others of a like mind to hook up for some cruising and downwind rides.

hiya bill: you and i have had some back and forth about various balance issues, on your brother's site.  anyway, as it happens, i don't think i live that far from you: i live in the general narragansett, ri, area.  there are some great breaks around here but you really have to pick and choose your times to avoid crowds.  sometimes you also have to settle for less than ideal conditions: yesterday i went out twice, for about 4.5 hrs total, in super crappy on shore conditions w/ waves in the 2-3' range.  they say that's good practice  but i fell off so many times, in so many strange and twisted configurations, that by the end i was ready to give my sup to the next person i saw and call it quits.
then, this morning, i went to a spot that was glassy and 3-4', just about perfect.  my balance issues still had me falling off left and right.  even so, i caught about ten waves over the 3 hrs and count myself blessed.  glad i didn't give my board away yesterday!
depending on the wind, we also have some good flatwater spots, and you're welcome to come down and give em a go.
have you gotten a board yet?

Hi Linter,

Bill's my bro, but you're close. I'm Bob.

I haven't started yet. I'm going to check out Bill's Starboard Labor Day weekend. If I even think it's possible I'm going to go for it. From what Bill says the Starboard is stable enough that if anything is going to work it will. I'll be doing mostly local stuff at 1st (Plymouth Beach/Bay and some lakes) if it does. Once I get my sea legs back I'll be looking for some waves soon enough. I miss the days of sunup to sundown on the water.

It sounds to me like you're doing great. I know all too well what you're up against but all you can do is keep pushing. The alternative sucks worse.

I can't believe it but Bill gave me his Starboard......and here I was thinking about the other thread that discusses cutting an old windsurfer down the middle. Now I'm the proud owner of a brand new 12'6" Starboard wood. How sweet is that? I've been dying all week to get out but i'm slammed in work. Heading for the beach tomorrow though. Hehe...I feel like a little kid.....can't sleep with anticipation.
