Good Places to Move too around LA?

I have family in Chicago- burbs and in the city.  
Long Beach is my recommendation - half hour -45min commute to Orange County and the same to Los Angeles in the other direction.  Smack in the middle of everything.  Also, It's a destination itself for flat water and close to some sup friendly surf breaks.

A block from the beach, El Segundo. <$1300/mo. and just slightly more charm than a sea-land crate.

Los Angeles is about trade offs.  Housing is a very personal decision, and like selecting a SUP board, not something anyone can select for you as a surrogate.  You know what you want, what's tolerable, and what the deal breakers are.  LA metro has a population of 16+ million people, and as frightning as that number sounds, we're spread out like no other city in the world.  I'm sure you'll find something that works.

MB has been one of our favourites to visit along with the other beach towns to the south.
Listing is going for $1100! Hope I'm not wrong but it looks like a total deal.

So we made our trip to search for apartments last week, we decided on a complex in the huntington harbor area.  Now planning to be there in May.  That being said where are the sup friendly spots to surf? I will be only a walk form Warner and PCH intersection. I know Bolsa Chica is there not sure how sup friendly it is let me know what you guys think.  Thanks!
