Surfing in the Snow
« on: December 28, 2012, 09:50:40 AM »
This is how we do it in Canada. While everyone was digging out from the storm on Thursday morning, we hit the beach... Sadly, the best part of the day (afternoon session, after a hot tub break) took place when my camera batteries were dead. The sun came out, there was a foot of snow covering everything and the waves were like glass - even cleaner than the ones you'll see in the video.

Sorry for the link, but I still don't know how to embed videos.

Great that you went to the trouble of filming your session ;D
Nice to see winter waves on the lakes.

Do you lose many days to the lake freezing... or does it stay open all winter?

We'll get some ice buildup on the shore, but can usually get out all winter.

Great film, I loved the mix of board and paddle perspectives.  I could feel the ice-cream cone headaches on the wipeouts, but probably worth it for the empty line up and fun looking waves.  Growing up surfing in New England, I forget how spoiled I am to live in California.  Thanks for the cool reminder.

Switch foot, nice!  Noticed your leash changed legs, do you switch it often when you're out?

Nicely done! What about ice buildup on gear on cold days. Salt water helps a little but I'd imagine fresh would get real crusty pretty quick.

The switch foot is just an iMovie trick to break up the repetitive footage (basically just mirror images the clip). And yes, ice is an issue now - on the shore and building up on the paddle. Small price to pay. There Hasn't been much action on my end of the lake lately...
