There may be a future in double paddles, they've been used in the Med for many years, but those swivel D handles just look plain goofy.  Kayakers must be pissing themselves watching this... :D

Seems REALLY awkward to me, but it would be interesting just to try it.   I can maybe see where you would have some tracking and speed advantages for a very short period of time, but the setup and body mechanics required seems to me to require much more effort in your upper body and somewhat more upsetting to your balance.  The paddle it self has to be significantly heavier.  This guy is worn out in 15 minutes on flat water and he thinks that is a selling point?  What is he smoking?  OK then, in what conditions would this paddle be an advantage?  Maybe busting through the surf break in a life saving situation.  For the type of stuff we do, I envision this as a goofy mistake.  The tag on the vid says Race Hawaii.  Who is racing with these paddles?

In high winds it would be a handful with one blade up high in the air.

The second blade on my paddle keeps the sharks away.

If it were like a surfski paddle where the blades are rotated 90deg from each other you wouldn't be pushing the top paddle straight into the wind with an open face. I wouldn't use it SUS'g or racing. Not in a car, and not on a train. Not in a house and not in the rain. I love how the developer is talking about it like an engineer who knows nothing about the application at all. I am glad he had an interpreter demonstrating it so us surfers could like totally understand it.  ;)
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Gotta give the designer credit for his creativity.
But I am not feeling it.

You do not like them.
SO you say.
Try them! Try them!
And you may.
Try them and you may I say.

Actually, I doubt I'd like them either.

I feel like SUP is a hybrid of OC-1 and surfing. I don't feel as connected to kayaking

Besides the water runs down onto my hands whenever I use one of those paddles.

That's all I have to say about the matter.

In the video, he didn't appear to get the paddle vertical.  Thus a lot of zig & zag.

Right, I am pissing myself. The concept may have merit, but the rotating handle thing is up there with ginsu knives and Australian systems of hair removal.
The Israeli clip was way cooler.
