It might. Even while the swell was smaller it still did okay at higher tide.

Oil Derrick might break at low tide tomorrow.  Looking at the period... don't know if it is going to be long enough.

Looking at the buoys... hoping...

If not, I will hit capo reefs tomorrow afternoon.

Gonna wait out the morning high tide and score some brownie points.

If the Derrick mission is on, I will tweet it.  @strandleper...

It will be me and my buddy Roger.

I tried to paddle out from the south to meet up with Boludo. When I got out, the horizon and waterline were not discernible, and then a dark and murky overhead wall greeted me. I spun around and actually had to paddle quite hard to get it.  The rest wasn't pretty... I got down the wave face and then the whole thing dumped and threw me off the bumpy section and smacked face first and dragged inside.  Feeling pretty dazed and nervous, I went back to the car and swapped boards for my shorty, which was just a bit too short for the conditions.

Oh man, how I missed duck diving.  It was a veritable washing machine out there. I must have taken 30 waves on the head in an hour's time.  Literally, the biggest set I've ever seen in Cardiff came out of nowhere, about 30 yards in front of me. I was on my 5'6" and could punch under quite easily, but four more waves came after the first (easily double overhead and THICK!!).

Not much surfing actually took place yesterday. But I was amazed how calm I felt being back on a normal surfboard. Only having to be concerned with a tiny bit of fiberglass was quite welcoming in such turbulent conditions.

Friday reminded me that the thrill of surfing a Sup in big conditions, with no channel to get out through, makes for a one wave day. And, I need a bigger surfboard!

We'll see what Saturday brings.

Not a set wave, but lots of foamy water:

Scripps Pier buoy data:

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=LJPC1

Looking at the numbers, can you determine wave-face height?
It was definitely way overhead yesterday, but the hourly #'s show an average of 5 feet.

I hear ya loud and clear CardifSweeper. Was fortunate enough to catch 1 right and 3 lefts. The last left I rode in too far. After that it was history. I tried and tried to get back out. Impossible!  Sets were too close together. I gave up and decided to walk back. Water was all the way crashing against boulders so it was a very challenging walk back as well.  Next time I'm gonna be smarter.  Now my foot is killing me and I can't figure out why.

Same thing at Tourmaline.....lots of waiting then walls of water.  Quite a few people pounded when trying to make it.

Every now and then a surf able wave came through.

I was on my longboard but I saw about 3-4 paddlers out.

Del Mar is going richter.  Oil rig isn't going to break.  Rights at point going silly.  All the nooks and crannies in Laguna are ALIVE.  The right at Montage is firing.  The tide is starting to fall.  My 10'6" is on top of the car.  My wife's belly is full of breakfast... and I am going to venture forth.

I decided to take wifey to brekkie in Laguna at the high tide (and perhaps do a little bit of surf checking)...

Outside (Sets) are walling...
Middles after the sets have some corners.
Higher Tide helped.
Much smoother today than the last 2 days..
Here are some Middle Break Waves...

I'm at La Jolla Shores right now. Scripps looks a few feet overhead on the bigger sets. The cove doesn't look to be breaking.

The minute long paddle out was nice. I paddled north towards the pier and the rights were juicy. Lots of "deer in the headlights" looks from the lay-people prevented me from fully enjoying each wave. I got vertical on a left and smacked the lip nicely, then they kinda parted ways when I paddled back out and gave me some space.

Shores is two foot now. Tide rapidly dropping, it's bumpy and carpy, but sunny and nice on the bumper of my car. :)

There were some definite DOH sets at Sunset cliffs today. Here's a picture I snapped before going out. I don't know who the SUPer is.

Entrance and egress was a bitch today.

Speaking of entrance, here is a sequence  a fiend of mine captured

This is not where I get in the water,  but it gives you an idea why I wait for low tide at the Cliffs..
