Frankenstorm, aka Sandy
« on: October 25, 2012, 01:58:49 PM »
Anyone else really blown away by the weather elements in place that could cause this thing to be a freak of nature type storm?  In addition to the waves it will bring, I'm enjoying trying to understand what is going on with the potential weather and timing of it all.

The sailing tribe headed to the Bahamas for the winter sure are hunkered down and crossing fingers, from the Chesapeake south.

Did a nice 5 mile paddle around the island today the weather was perfect. Calm light breeze, crystal clear water, bright blue sky, saw large stripers in Cotuit Bay very relaxing. I was also making mental notes how this place may look this time next week. The power of mother nature... stay tuned.

   "La Tormenta Perfecta".
Couldn't help myself. I happen to see The Perfect Storm while in Mexico.

I hope my favorite bar is still there after Sandycane.
Not looking like we're gonna surf much... waves and wind don't wanna cooperate.

Be like surfing the bow wave of a freight train.

The real opportunity here is to find places that NEVER break... up river mouths... inside bays on the lee side. Just may be chance to see a once in a lifetime break...

I watched an Accuweather video on Monday morning in which the meteorologist showed a model of the superstorm hitting the Mid-Atlantic and said, "There's NO WAY this can happen."

Five days later, and the same exact scenario that he said would never happen appears to be what WILL happen. It's kind of scary.

LOL...Free...that would likely be tough conditions there but there is a spot just south of it that can be epic in heavy NE conditions. Unfortunately I think I'm SOL on this one...sick as a dog and workload will keep me off the water for a bit. I was thinking this is setting up for a great downwinder in your neck of the woods.

I'm going on a river paddle tomorrow, but I've already started battening down. I've cleared stuff off my porch and tomorrow my wife and I will get as much as we can off the basement floor.

One big problem with these recent storms were tree branches. Since we don't usually get storms like this -- except for last year -- the trees haven't adapted to these kind of conditions. We get a lot of downed power lines and wood everywhere.

I'm guessing I'm going to lose all three of my snow days next week. The school I work at is in a very rural district. Events like this tear up the dirt roads and turn the forests into pasta salad. Oh well, there goes Spring Break.

Funny.  Looks like a "baby making" storm.
