What town is really "Surf Town USA"?  Im sure most know of the bad blood between the two and the battle for the naming rights...

Huntington or Santa Cruz?

I think of Huntington Beach as Surf City, so I guess that leaves Surf Town, USA available for Santa Cruz. I grew up in OC but Santa Cruz is now my local spot, so I have dual loyalties.

Paia, I think, was ranked #4 and that seems about right.   Every surfer searching for big wave valhalla migrates here this time of year... and their wait begins.  Jet skis top off their tanks at gas stations.  Every parking place, legal and otherwise is taken and with the amount of boards on top,  it looks like a sports expo.  Just about every third vehicle that rolls thru town has some kind of board on top.  Cars yell to one another about current surf forecasts.  Will it be big enough for Peahi?  It's that time of year.

Guys and girls, covered in exotic tattoos and not much else, skateboard thru town, right down the middle of Hana Hw.  Today a guy was getting towed by his pit bull, weaving thru the bumper traffic.   Girls... everywhere.  Today I saw a girl walking in town with a Rhino gun under her arm.  Must have been 11-12 feet, pinned at both ends.  She looked fit and maybe she's one of the few Wahines paddling into Peahi but even tho we have a swell right now, there's nothing for a board that big.  Not that it mattered.   Even tho her boards' outline was pretty straight, hers' was rather curvy.  Yeah Santa Cruz is something else and so is Huntington but for Hawaii, this is it, right now.
