Well, SL is a wanted man at Salt Creek.
That MUST be the best spot.

When its big? Blacks Beach, two hundred yards north of the goat trail. You'll be the only competition. Nearly impossible to catch the bigger waves on a normal surfboard. But the inside is a meat grinder.

My alternate spot is La Jolla shores, especially during a rainstorm. Mt Soledad blocks the south wind and gives a side-offshore groom to the winter swell. Furthermore, in a 300 hundred yard span from Scripps pier to the south, the wave height can vary six feet, so it's an easy paddle out and then turn and burn northward.

:)

Lot's of food for thought there.  Appreciate it.

I've surfboarded just north of the Del Mar rivermouth on big days.  There's a wave there that looks like it would be great on a stand up, when big.  But it would likely be pretty tough to paddle out.  Where do you put in to get out at big north-of-north-Black's when it's big?

I really like Lowers on Saturday mornings.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

As of this past Saturday...Cardiff area (San El).  1st time I ever paddled out and caught a wave with out getting my hair wet on a SUP.  Oh and thanks for the words of encouragement from the fellow SUPers in the water.

So hard to choose.  My favorite spot isn't necessarily where I surf the most.  Though when it's right it's oh so right.  Then there's the little reefs that I sneak out on when tide is just right at the campgrounds and can get great waves to myself.  Or I can paddle by the hordes at a certain reef down here to the next one and surf with just a few mellow people.  Oh the overload!

You should keep that to yourself.  This will become some visitor
zoner travel guide.  Look for me out on the donkey barge with the
zoner tee shirt.

There are no secrets in Socal-and since a large part of the socal sus crowd still surf or used to, its not a big deal.
Im gonna buy a 10-6 and then get the classic tee with the Donkeys riding in the back of the truck.
Haulin Ass on my donkey barge-oh the double entendre is too much!

Another hundred yards north, it gets mellow. That's where I was supping over the Labor Day weekend swell. Yes, true Blacks is better, but I like being the only one out sometimes. And I always wanted to see how the wave would be on a stand-up...phenomenal!

(Not to mention the strange looks and comments from the people coming up the trail.). :)
