No more flat water
« on: August 20, 2007, 06:28:21 PM »
Last session saturday.Went to bed 2am phone rings 7.30 am, coffee, pull on wetsuit hit the water 8.30
Close period wind swell maybe chest high. Starts out kind of glassy for oregon then light south wind a couple hours later maybe six waves and falling off more than I care to think about. Lessons learned. Get some sleep. Don't paddle to much flat water it just makes  you think your good. Go out when it's bumpy it makes you better. For me it's all about the waves and they will soon be here!

Welcome to the forum Ken. So? Flat water makes us think we are better than we think huh?Probably got a good point!...........LOL

While I wait for my new board I am "training on my wife 12' Munoz. I had some strong trade winds and even a few PWC wakes to deal with yesterday but the result was a great for a work out and as you said “bumpy make you better”.

We are waiting for waves as well and still have another month and a half before surf season fully hits (although we are expecting a small swell tomorrow). So I am dedicated to training 3-4 days a week to be ready for it.

Hi Bill,
This just in:
At the surface, a storm is now entering the Hawaii swell window with 40-50 knot winds over 5000 nm out due south of south island in the 195-200 degree band. Long period energy from this area should fill in next Monday, notching the surf up. Models show the storm becoming very powerful and broad later today through Wednesday, with potential for a high surf episode locally by next Tuesday into Wednesday. Hints of a followup storm later this week, bringing average to above average southern shore surf for late August to early September, out of 180-200 degrees.
Looks like an end to flat water may be near!
